Gold Point Marina, near Chattanooga, Tennessee, has a history that dates back to the Franklin Roosevelt era. And, until recently, its appearance reflected its age. To transform the old harbor into a contemporary marina, the owners called upon Atlantic-Meeco, the leader in design and construction of floating dock facilities.
The marina upgrades include the installation of a new 320' Wavewall wave attenuator to protect the harbor. We also installed 101 new cruiser slips, adding to the 66 sailboat and small boat slips that are already part of the facility. The new slips range in length from 40' to 80' and are designed to accommodate the large boats that are becoming more common in the area. Each of the new slips is equipped with electrical, water telephone and cable TV.
The Marina is located on the Tennessee River, which is part of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, providing access to the Great Lakes and New Orleans. The waterway include 10 locks and dams, a 175' deep canal connecting the Tennessee River with the Tombigbee River Watershed and 234 miles of navigation channels.
The new docks are constructed of galvanized steel, wood decking and use our permacase encapsulated foam floats. In a final phase of construction, the marina plans to add 80 additional covered slips. The marina is expected to introduce new boaters to the waterway system experience.
Gold Point is owned by Ewrin Marine Sales, with dealerships in Chattanooga, Nashville and Huntsville. The company also owns another nearby facility, Chickamauga Marina. According to COO of Ewrin Marine Sales, Bob McMahan, We consider Atlantic-Meeco to be the premier dock manufacturer in the country. He added, We are pleased with their construction, and they have been very cooperative in working with us.
